The great outdoors

An adventure to remember for ever ...

Whether you want to walk the fells, spend time on, or in, the water, watch the ospreys or just go fishing, there is so much to choose from ..

Fell Walking

A bad day on the hill is still better than a good day in the office.....

There is a wealth of walking and running routes right from door (all clearly described and mapped), from short forest walks, trips up to the wonderful High Dam with views down into Windermere or to Bethecar Moor to the west with views down to Coniston Water.

A little further afield, then many favourite routes such as Old Man of Coniston, the Langdale PikesCrinkle Crags, the Fairfield Horseshoe and many more are all within a short drive.

All things bicycle

"I don’t ride a bike to add days to my life. I ride a bike to add life to my days"

Whether you've not ridden for years or are happy shredding through rock gardens, Grizedale Forest offers a fantastic opportunity for natural cycling. The Grizedale Centre has trails suitable for all abilities including shared public and forest road trails through to green graded family trails, the North Face trail which is graded red and some Black sections of trail that are 0.8 miles in length!
You can bring your own bikes - we have secure storage you can use - or hire them here. We can even arrange hire for you before hand.

May your spirit soar...

No more words...

The osprey is a fish-eating bird of prey with a five-foot wingspan. There was no record of osprey nests in England since the 1830s, until a pair arrived in the Lake District in 2001.

There is now a nesting pair at Esthwaite, between Lands End and Hawkshead. So whilst you might get very lucky and spot one at Lands End, for a more certain sighting why not go on an Osprey Safari in Esthwaite and see these majestic birds.

Wild Water Swimming

From a  paddle in High Dam to swimming in a waterfall ....

Wild Water Swimming simply means swimming in natural bodies of water such as lakes and rivers. Our local swimming hole is High Dam, just up the fell and Esthwaite between Lands End and Hawkshead is popular with many wild water swimmers.

If you are unsure of trying it on your own then why not join a wild swim with Swim the Lakes?

Out on the water

Being based between Coniston and Windermere, there is a huge variety of watersports, from canoeing and sailing to windsurfing and diving, within easy range of Lands End Cottage. Maybe you fancy learning to water-ski or sail. Or if you want a fun based team activity why not try dragon boat racing or raft building.

With a little help ..
